Biodegradable drinking straws are all the rage, but one New York Yankees fan may have gone a bit too left field when he combined two of the fixtures of any good baseball game: beer and hot dogs.

In the clip, originally shared by Nicolas Heller and viewed more than 12 million times in total on Twitter, the man can be seen hollowing out the hot dog with an already perfectly usable drinking straw, and then using the repurposed sausage to suck up his beer.
Right off the bat, the response to the footage, which some viewers may find upsetting, was largely one of confusion.
Mark Giangreco, a former sports TV anchor, said: “Wild? It’s sick.”
Another user remarked: “This man is doing this of his own initiative. It’s not some dude joking around with his friends. That’s the most disturbing part.”
But there were others who relished the creativity of this gastronomic pioneer: “Two things that are delicious, yet you judge without trying it – why is that?”
Sausage manufacturer Johnsonville, perhaps slightly biased, tweeted: “Last time we checked, sausage goes great with plenty of drinks. Ever heard of a Bloody Mary?”
In April, Heller uploaded a video on Instagram of a different Yankees fan dunking his hot dog in his beer and then eating it, which proved to be similarly divisive on social media.

More than a million hot dogs are sold at Yankee Stadium every season, according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. How many of that number are used for drinking beer is unknown.
But perhaps they are onto something – there could be market potential for a sausage straw product, given that earlier this year one brewer announced its plans to sell a hot dog water-flavoured hard seltzer. Alternatively, for the full hot dog experience, he could try pairing the frankfurter with a pickle-flavoured brew.
